MESSAGE FROM HEAD

Message From the Department head.

Welcome to Graduate School of Nanoscience and Technology (GSNT) at KAIST.
We are glad you are here, and invite you to look through the pages.

Nanoscience and Technology, by its own nature, is highly diverse and interdisciplinary - it resists precise definitions and hard boundaries.

No single discipline can cover its vast possibilities - what is required is an interdisciplinary approach.

Thus, GSNT was officially established in 2008 as the newest, graduate-only department in the College of Natural Science with the goal of becoming the focal point of such convergence of many different disciplines that can take advantage of different viewpoints and techniques to provide a fresh insight that can produce a lasting impact.

Currently, the main area of our research is the area where physics, engineering, and chemistry come together to meet biology.

We ask questions about basic principles and structures that underlie the biological phenomena, and seek to develop methods and insight that can provide us the answers. At the same time, we are also actively engaged in other areas of nanoscience research such as energy, nanophotonics, nanomaterials, microfluidics, and others.

We are also the recipient of the WCU grant from MEST of Korea, and have a strong network of jointly appointed faculty.

We hope that you are interested in our research, and excited by its results and possibilities. Thank you for coming by, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions of comments.

Head of GSNT,  Yong-Hyun Kim
